Empowered Voters Rally Behind Change in Ward 3

Ypsilanti, Mich., February 5, 2024 - In a resounding show of civic engagement, passionate residents of Ward 3 have mobilized, presenting an impressive 747 signatures to the Washtenaw County Clerk on Friday, February 2, 2024. Driven by a collective commitment to the future of our city, our dedicated volunteers tirelessly canvassed over 3,000 doors, engaging citizens across Ward 3 in crucial conversations about the pressing issues affecting our community.

From the distressing environmental challenges posed by the faltering Dorsey Estates project to the alarming lack of accountability and transparency, the citizens of Ward 3 are demanding change. They are no longer willing to tolerate the cover-up of fraudulent credit card spending by the former city manager, nor the questionable decision-making that led to a controversial $87,000 contract with ex-city council member Brian Jones-Chance of 734 Brewing. Moreover, the rushed acquisition of an industrial warehouse for $3.7 million, a property that just a year earlier sold for $1.1 million, has raised serious concerns about the competence and leadership of Council Member Desirae Simmons.

A groundswell of support from almost a third of registered voters in Ward 3, who actively participated in the last election, resulted in a formidable 747 petition signatures calling for the recall of Council Member Simmons. Upon verification of at least 603 signatures by the County Clerk, an early election will be called offering the community an opportunity to voice their concerns and decide the future trajectory of Ward 3's representation on the Ypsilanti City Council.

The stage is set for a dynamic electoral process, scheduled for May 7, 2024. Expect impassioned debates and spirited campaigns as Ward 3 residents deliberate on who will assume the vital role of representing their interests on the Ypsilanti City Council. This momentous occasion marks a pivotal opportunity for the citizens of Ward 3 to choose a leader who aligns with their values and aspirations, ensuring a brighter future for our beloved city.
